Dr. Yubin Ge receives a NIH grant to develop a new treatment strategy to prevent/delay relapse of myeloid leukemia associated with Down syndrome

Yubin Ge, Ph.D., professor of oncology and Jeffrey Taub, M.D., professor of pediatrics in Wayne State University’s School of Medicine, earned a four-year, $1.2 million grant from the National Cancer Institute of the National Institutes of Health may help researchers find new clues to the interplay between Down syndrome (DS) and myeloid leukemia (ML). They will use this funding to develop a novel strategy to enhance the antileukemic activity of the chemotherapy drug cytarabine against myeloid leukemia associated with DS.
“This grant is an excellent example of the important research happening at Wayne State University that has the potential to impact the lives of many,” said Ezemenari M. Obasi, Ph.D., Wayne State’s vice president for research & innovation. “Drs. Taub and Ge’s collaborative work will aim to find new treatments and further our knowledge of leukemia and Down syndrome that ultimately may help countless children live longer, healthier lives.”
