State of the web union, September 2018

Here’s a brief overview of our website upgrade project as of today.

We have upgraded our departments in History, African American Studies, and most recently, Nutrition and Food Science to the new website. We’ve also upgraded our Undergraduate Research (UGR), Public Health, LawStart, Labor Studies, and most recently, Jewish Studies programs.

Emphasis is given to “upgrade” over the term “migration” as we’re not just moving pages, images, etc. over as they, but we’re making many improvements along the way. You can view these new sites and more at clas.wayne.edu/programs.

Next up

Our goal is to complete all 19 departments by the end of this year. With 16 to go, I’m sure that we can get there with your help. As many of you have asked, we’ve put together a next steps guide to help you and your team prepare your site for the move. These are things that you can begin doing now to ensure a smooth transition.

Our next departments up are CMLLC, Physics and Astronomy, Sociology, Mathematics, and Biology.

Training, tutorials

Starting this week, new website editors (not familiar with our new content management system) will be asked to complete a short ten question training to familiarize yourself with some of the features and practices of the new system. Although we’ve introduced several new features and practices that will be introduced incrementally, these are the basics you get your started.

You can sign-up for the self-paced course at go.wayne.edu/cmscourse.

We will also soon be hosting more CLAS trainings and webinars on a variety of topics such as Canva, social media, and of course the new website and strategies for doing those.

Social media tune-up

Because social media is so integral, we’re revamping of our CLAS social media channels with some standardized practices, fresh logos, and more, all designed to enhance the brand, reputation, and marketing efforts of your dept., the college, and Wayne State as a whole.
