New requirements for posted plans of work

As we continue to improve the CLAS experience, it is preferable that departments now encourage students to meet with their advisor to develop a custom plan of work rather than relying on a static plan listed on the website.

However, for the departments that choose to post a sample plan of work for informational or recruiting purposes, here are the new requirements for doing so:

  • Use the term “plan of work” as opposed to “four-year plan.” Because degree completion time can vary based on a student’s circumstances, the term “four-year plan” can be misleading
  • It should be explicitly conveyed (if not already), in person or in writing, that these plans are a sample plan and do not guarantee graduation by the proposed timeline which is dependent upon other factors
  • Plans posted to the website must be updated at least once per year no later than August 1
  • Posted plans that do not reflect the current university/college requirements are subject to removal after notice
  • Plans posted to the website must include the following disclaimer statement at the top of the page:

This sample plan of work represents one path to degree completion and does not guarantee graduation by the proposed timeline subject to student performance and class availability. Students are advised to meet with their advisor to develop an individualized plan of work.
