For social inequality I actually find many aspects of it interesting. Sociology in general is fascinating to me and that is exactly why I decided to major in it. Anyway back on topic I have a few topics that I would be interested in writing about. I believe the criminal justice system is an institution that’ has so much and perpetuates so much social inequality. I think it would be interesting to write and learn more about. I know the criminal justice system definitely perpetuates racial inequality and there are many statistics supporting this. I learned it from my other sociology classes. I would be interesting to learn more about gender inequality in the criminal justice system, I do not believe I have seen this extensively covered in any of my sociology courses. Also I believe religion would be very interesting because I see religion as an institution but also an identity that can be used to create inequality between different religions, but also I would be interested in seeing how religion perpetuates other social inequalities. Lastly, I believe covering disabilities would also be interesting as this can create social inequalities and there is such as broad spectrum of disabilities and it would be interesting to see the inequalities that society perpetuates in regards to disabilities.
Ok so this question is a little difficult given I have no work experience, but I did have an idea while reading this. I know there is affirmative action in some work places, I do not know the full extent of affirmative action, but in another of my classes there was something like the government should be representative of the population so the percentage of say African American women that make of the population should be equal to their representation in government. I believe this could be done for work places, especially in regards to type of job. Like surgeons or nursing, and it shouldn’t just be for minorities. White men should also have a percentage. I understand that this would be a rather difficult task because people would worry about it causing issues and excluding people of certain identities once a percentage is reached. But it’s a rough idea. But I believe having something to this extent would be helpful in expanding the diversity of many fields. I believe work places should all have some form of education that is continued especially in regards to sociology. This is a weird idea but my mother is in social work and to keep her license she has to take a bunch of classes anyway. I believe that continuing education is a good idea in the work place as I believe continual learning allows the mind to be more receptive to different ideas. So having classes that could cover some inequalities in regards to the field the person is in. I believe each job perpetuates inequality in its own unique way so I think this is micro level, but to really get an idea of increasing equality I would have the boss or manager of an organization survey their employees about how to best increase equality and the government could survey people who work how to best increase equality in the work place. Because I have to say the people who are going through the inequality are probably the best people to ask how they thin it should be dealt with. Honestly I think the survey is the best of my ideas.
