Personally, the American Dream used to be a gold haloed idea for people across the world and in decades ago it may have felt like the American dream that they were living; however, now-a-days I think the American Dream is a joke, nonexistent, and just a thought. Americans can’t even achieve this “dream” without suffering and working to live instead of living to do things and work being one of them. With how the world continuously grows more politically divided any immigrant that crosses the border should not expect the American dream to look as pretty and vibrant as the stereotypes have made it out to be. Down south I would not be surprised if immigrants faced a lot of racism when they come over.

Down south is very conservative and do not give a sweet friendly, southern welcome as we would receive traveling from Michigan. To answer what I feel like is in place now, I don’t think much is in place except for negativity, political parties, close minded conversations that were over before they started because people no longer listen, they just “politely” wait their turn to talk. I feel that we have the power to make America a beautiful place again full of vibrancy, a place where it is embraces to be unique, a place where your mind is not automatically made up on if you like someone based off of their political party. I just think that the generations coming up are more liberal, I am personally down the middle politically and am pro both liberal and conservative ideas, but I don’t let that define me or others.

I feel, have observed, and witness the older generations jump to conclusions and “have somebody figured out” based upon their biased beliefs of somebody else unique set of beliefs. I don’t necessarily think that the future generations will be naturally more open minded and accepting. It doesn’t really relate to this topic but for example in today’s time it is a big deal to come out with a different sexuality than straight, eventually as time progresses, we will hopefully see a world where there’s no assumptions, thoughts, or announcement because somebody is different than the set-in way values a lot of American hold.

We are living through history and changing times, now what we deal with today do not hold anywhere close enough to the weight that these other times, but we lived through changing times when slaves were freed, when women got rights, when LGBTQ+ community got rights. People will give push back; many don’t like change and are so set in their values and beliefs that have rooted and instilled into them form childhood; but we cannot stay uncomfortable and halt progress just so the close minded will stay comfortable. Change is hard, scary, frustrating, and challenging debate but it can also be the best thing for many, it can give hope, ignite a dimmed light within someone, change is worth it.
