I have friends who have gone to MSU, GVSU, SVSU, other universities, friends who joined the workforce, friends who have dropped out, and friends who have gone to cosmetology school. Our life path looks similar but also vastly different, I started out at LCC stay there for 2 years, transferred to WCC stayed there for 2 years, then started my journey at Wayne. My journey looks very different form many, I didn’t know where to begin and how to begin, academics have always been a struggle for me so trying to navigate college, registration, an academic plan felt equivalent to jumping into a black hole, if that makes any sense.

For my college goer friends our path looks similar in the ways that we are about to finish school or have freshly graduated and trying to prepare for our future in the workforce. Trying to find a career start that also pays a living wage while also trying to wrap our minds around and understand what we’re living and making currently. For my friends who went to cosmetology school, life if the most different, I love to work with people, but they work with people in a different way that is more intimate and in personal space than I am when I work retail. I love the craft that they do, and they are amazing at it but I just don’t understand their world. With my friends who started working right after high school I respect and understand their day to day.

As I stated earlier, I struggle in the world of academics but in the world of business and work I understand and thrive there. I take my work very seriously and am proud of the work ethic I put forth and am capable of. I love and have driven to work and try to be the best worker in the room, with the life I strive to live and the future I want to have I need to get somewhere higher than where I am at right now. I have a very blessed situation for my wages currently but am excited to put my academic career to a close in the near future so I can fully indulge in the work I am passionate about. I noticed when I was writing this, I was feeling writers block because I didn’t know how to relate to mt cosmetology friends but noticed my word count rose when I stared writing about what I was passionate about and what I understand. I have a decorated resume and am excited to put it to use after I am able to add my degree onto it!
