Most of my current friends didn’t go to school, they started businesses, got 9-5’s, certificates etc. We are all kind of in the same spot right now, still just trying to figure it out at our varying ages. No one I know lives entirely on their own, some are still purchasing their first cars. We are all trying really hard. They do talk to me differently though; they know I’m getting my bachelor’s and want to go to law school and when I start to doubt myself, they have no tolerance for it. I think we all believe in one another a little more than we believe in ourselves.
We miss each other a lot as a lot of us have super booked schedules but I miss them significantly more since I spend most of my time between school and work and when I see my friends I’m more than likely sacrificing something else like sleep, time to do homework, or work. We like to laugh and say that for the moment that we’re all passing around the same 20 dollars trying to support and bring one another up. We often fantasize about the day we’ll be well off, meeting yearly for group trips and how we’d manage to see each other once we all move away.
I lost friends though, I’ve had friends that did go to school but then dropped out, or never did anything with it for whatever reason, we kind of fell out though. Not due to arguments or anything but because I couldn’t hang out, and some because they began to make me feel used. I lost a lot of friends because they constantly would call me for help and I would show up, but I couldn’t call these same people for help when I needed it, it began to make me feel used and it was a bit draining.
We also eventually didn’t have the same interest either they became the kind of friends that I could only hang out with in certain environments because in certain spaces they would do things that were embarrassing when trying to build connections. While my friends now have different paths, we all have something we can learn from one another and like I said we do things to help support each other and get through the hard times together.
