I do not believe that inequality is a good thing. However, I do believe that without inequality, we would not have passion. For example, in 2020 George Floyd was murdered by a police officer. At the time, the country was divided. Was Floyds death okay? Or was it a murder? Many Americans went out and protested for the rights of black Americans and how police brutality is very real in the United States. While other Americans disagree– they said that “all lives matter” and that police brutality is not a real thing. The protests that went on due to Floyds death, and also the Black Lives Matter movement, brought Americans together. Without inequality, Americans would not have come together to protest. I do believe that protesting motivates people. But why do we need to be motivated to defend/fight for people’s rights, when they should already have rights in the first place? I believe that inequality can bring people together to fight for something, however, I believe that all should be equal. I’d rather have equality for all than inequality for some.

In this country, inequality is inevitable. The laws that the country was built upon is primarily full of racism and misogyny. Even if this country was not built upon racism and misogyny, I still believe we would have issues with inequality, but systemically, it wouldn’t be as much of a dumpster fire. White men control United States politics. The majority of those in the House are white men. Out of 46 presidents, only one has been black—all have been men. More recently, Kamala Harris, a woman of color, become Vice President of the United States. Every time I believe that we progress as a country, I am then reminded that I still don’t have bodily autonomy. The reason I don’t have my own bodily autonomy is because of men.
