It is hard to stand fully one way or the other with the issue of inequality. I think that inequality is not a good thing, but it could also be needed. Growing up, I have luckily been given a lot from my parents and they have fortunately helped me out. After moving out, it has been a continuous battle to keep up with bills, rent, and groceries, let alone the items that are necessary. I didn’t realize how hard it can be in the world without any help from others. I feel as though it is a never-ending cycle of going to class and then work right after for the rest of the day. Class, work, class, work. It feels as though I am missing out on so much that life has to offer by being locked in this cycle of trying to make ends meet.
If I had money, I would be free to be able to not worry about rent and bills. It is disheartening because it feels as though I am missing out on my twenties. I see many people on social media going on vacations or going out to fancy restaurants without a care in the world, while I am in a never-ending battle to live paycheck to paycheck. It is not fair that some people must live like this, or even worse, while others get to have the time of their lives, not worried about a single thing. On the other hand, I believe that how we grew up, builds our character. If it weren’t for certain situations that have happened, then I wouldn’t be who I am today. A friend of a friend that I know is homeless at the moment and it is just heartbreaking. They have nowhere to go and are sleeping outside in cold weather. It is people like that that makes me believe we should not have inequality.
On the other hand, I believe that if we were to have equality throughout the nation, then people would start to care less. I think the solution for this is to have set limits on poor and rich. For example, on the poor spectrum, no one should be homeless and not able to feed themselves or their children. On the rich side, no one needs five boats sitting on the dock collecting dust. People need to understand that there is inequality in the world. I feel as though this is essentially the first step, is understanding the problems we have in the nation. It is not fair that someone has the opportunity to get a raise when another doesn’t if they do the same amount of work for their job. It is not fair if two people get paided differently when they do the same thing. It is not fair that one person gets accepted into a college when another doesn’t with the same achievements. How can people not see the inequality in the world, when it is everywhere? Everyone deserves a chance to be the best that they can be.
