I have not experienced social mobility in my personal life, but my mothers side of the family has experienced social mobility in the mid 1900’s. My family immigrated from italy in the early 1900s to escape the italian mafia, and had to work hard to survive and eventually move up social classes from the lower class to the middle class. They first settled in gibraltar where they lived in a lower class neighborhood, eventually moving to dearborn and moving up a social step.

I think that the factors of a good economy and the buying power of american money allowed my family to work hard and eventually move up the social ladder, while that was still possible. I think I havent experienced social mobility because the economical trends within my parents careers and neighborhood have been amicable and have allowed them to stay in the middle class where they reside.

I think my family might experience some sort of mobility as the economical state of the housing market is getting worse and worse. I feel that my family might experience downward mobility as the costs of living arent being mitigated. The costs of food, and housing, and utilities, and taxes continue to rise, and if nothing is done to prevent or mitigate this, I can possibly see my family being forced to move out of our neighborhood in order to continue to provide for our family.
