Background: Baseline faculty (year one) survey

To gain a better understanding of the institutional experience and context, all full-time WSU faculty were invited to complete a baseline faculty (year one) survey.  The confidential data from this survey will be used in a study on faculty member hiring, retention and advancement at Wayne State University. The survey captured such information as family composition, social identities and satisfaction with the institution’s response to COVID-19 and general perceptions of experiences as a WSU employee.

You can view an executive summary of the year one survey findings in the GEARS Baseline (Year 1) Report

For more detail about the year one survey findings, please see the Baseline Barrier Report_2021.

We shared findings from our year one survey during a  Virtual Town Hall in November 2021.

Baseline survey results for emotional exhaustion
In addition to fewer women reporting high levels of peer support, more women reported high levels of cynicism and emotional exhaustion. Compared to men, these results suggest women have fewer peer-related resources and are experiencing higher degrees of burnout symptoms.
