Alex is GIS Director for the Biostatistical Epidemiology Research Design group at the Center for Translational Science and Clinical Research Innovation at Wayne State University. He currently teaches in public health, geography, and GIS for the Department of Urban Studies and Planning and Department of Public Health, as well as data visualization at the College for Creative Studies. Alex is the founder and lead cartographer of DETROITography, a map blog about Detroit and regularly offers community workshops on data and mapping, called Maptime, in collaboration with the community groups across the city. His notable research initiatives include the Detroit Food Map Initiative that has assessed perception and access to food in the city since 2011.
