About  Linh’s research:

My research focuses on elucidating the mechanism underlying skeletal myopathy in Barth syndrome (BTHS), a rare genetic disease caused by defective cardiolipin remodeling. We’ve found that the BTHS muscle cell model “TAZ-KO” exhibits severe differentiation defects, and that this is likely caused by down-regulation of a muscle-specific transcription factor that regulates myogenic differentiation. My goal is to characterize the mechanism whereby cardiolipin deficiency leads to this myogenesis defect. This knowledge will help us to understand the pathophysiology of BTHS (and potentially other mitochondrial diseases) so that effective treatment strategies can be developed in the future.
