We have a world-class counting lab to measure alpha, beta and gamma-emitting radionuclides.
Dry Lab Information
- Two Ge-well detectors (CANBERRA Inc.) with ultra-low background cryostats coupled to DSA and DSA-LX MCA with software
- Two Octete PC ORTEC Alpha systems with a total number of 16 detectors (additional 12 detectors (three Quad Alpha, CANBERRA Inc.)
- One low-background Riso beta counter, with 5 detectors
- Rn-Ra Portable Field Extraction and Counting system, AB- 5 radiation monitor
- RaDeCC counting system for short-lived radium isotopes
- Two RAD7 (for Radon measurement)
- Two large-vol PM10 aerosol collector (Anderson Co.)
Wet Lab Information
600 square feet for sample preparation, with three fume hoods, refrigerators, freezers, multiple filtration systems, vacuum pumps, peristaltic pumps, utility ovens, high-temperature 1.6 ft3 muffle furnace, ultrasonic bath, distilled water system, a large number of hot plates with stirrers, desiccators, microbalances, and several centrifuges. Computer: We have several Laptop and Desktop computers. We have dedicated support for the maintenance and repair of computers in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. The University also provides support through Computer and Information Technology Division.
