Myriam Hemes NJIMEGNE NKWA, Cameroon

Hello everybody, hope that you have a nice day. I am Myriam Hemes NJIMEGNE NKWA from Cameroon. I am a medical doctor. I also hold a masters degree in international relations. I am a senior staff at the ministry of Public Health, precisely in the department for the control of diseases, epidemics and pandemics. I worked like a team leader on the national rapid response team against covid-19 and member of communication unit inside the Incident Command System established to coordinate the covid19 outbreak in Cameroon. I’m also part of the national committee in charge to elaborate the national multirisk and multisectorial plan for preparation and response against public health emergencies.  I am the founder of a non-profit organization called YOHEDA-Youth for Health and Development of Africa. Since 2018, we are mainly focused on the health, education and development sectors with our goals in line with youth and vulnerable population. I am also a blogger on yohedahealthsolutions.com.

I am really excited and grateful to be part of this amazing program, the Mandela Fellowship, where I am under the public management track. I am really interested by the way I can impact my community and do my best to change things, a friend recommended me to do the Regional Leadership Center of Young African Leadership in Dakar in July 2017. I learned so much and I was able after this to change many things in my community. After this experience, I gained more skills in leadership, management, communication and public management. That is why I am applying for this life changing program. My goal for this program is to improve my skills in leadership, networking, partnership building, project management and public speaking.

I also hope to meet many people in Africa and in USA. I wish to pursue many connections in Africa and in Detroit especially in the area of health. I hope to have more connections with people in the field of public health, epidemiology and social media. I wish to have connection with people and organizations in health security surveillance, community planning and engagement, and environmental health. I also wish to pursue connections with the local humanitarian organizations. I hope that, in the next five years, I will impact health systems for millions of people and inspired thousands of young Cameroonians.
