Welcome to the Neuropsychology and Assessment Lab (NeurAL). We are broadly interested in psychological and neuropsychological assessment. We examine the properties of tests to improve their validity and refine our understanding of their limitations. Our goal is to produce research that maximizes the independence, well-being, and interpersonal relationships of people with acquired brain impairment.
Our lab members are pursuing a wide breadth of research interests. Current projects include studies of emotional competence (memory for emotional expressions, effects of own-race bias and multicultural familiarity on identification of facial affect, and the role of perspective-taking on relationship quality in dyads of people with traumatic brain injury and their caregivers); developing a new test of visual learning and memory; and cognitive reserve. We were doing some very cool work in test validity among adults with hearing loss; biometric enhancement of performance validity tests (response times, eye tracking of gaze, and pupillometry); and driving after acquired brain injury that is on hiatus, but it could pick up again pending renewed interest from a lab member (stay tuned).
