The fully virtual #WaynePop2020 Conference was held September 25-26, 2020. The theme of our 2020 conference was “Hindsight is 2020: How Popular Culture Writes, Rewrites, and Unwrites History.” We welcomed presentations and panels that looked beyond contemporary and/or American popular culture, and into international and pre-20th century texts which also look to the past to imagine or reimagine the present and future. We also explored texts that add voices and experiences which were previously missing, overlooked, or silenced in our pop culture imaginary of “the past.” The virtual conference included asynchronously shared content, including blog posts, YouTube videos, scholarly comics, and infographics. We also held synchronous pop culture trivia, a speed-geeking/networking event, a pop culture pedagogy roundtable, and our Turner Keynote Lecture from Dr. Shelley Streeby, titled “Speculative Archives: Hidden Histories and Ecologies of Science Fiction World-Making.”
