About Alexis’ Research

(1) I am interested in learning more about how Black children’s environments influence externalizing and internalizing behaviors from various different data collection modalities (e.g. questionnaire measures, observational methods, geo-coding, MRI, and EEG). (2) I am also interested in community participatory research with aims to get a more holistic scope of problems that happen within Black communities to find more holistic and applicable problems. (3) I am interested in how socio-emotional learning programs can improve grade school culture, increase attendance, and critical thinking skills of children in under-funded school districts. My ultimate goal is to open a wellness center that focuses on the family system incorporating therapy, yoga, and meditation, to increase quality of life for all members.

More about Alexis

Outside of research I am really interested in working in the community. I started a community garden with my best friend, and we provide free fruits, vegetables, and herbs to communities in Detroit experiencing food deserts. Not only do we focus on nutritional health but physical and mental as well by providing reduced-priced yoga and meditation events.
