A success story…
In 2007, some of my colleagues, the chair of our department, Professor Ratna Naik, and I decided to start a unique program which combines physics, biology, chemistry. and engineering into a program in Biomedical Physics (BMP). As of October 2012, this program has over 40 alumni. Of these, all have either entered a professional program, graduate school or have found employment right out of their BMP degree.
The program has been particularly successful in placing students into graduate or professional studies.
We have a unique AGRADE agreement with the department of biomedical engineering, allowing our students to obtain a B.S. in BMP and an M.S. in BME in only 5 years.
We have placed 45% of our students into medical school, making BMP one of the most successful pre-med programs at Wayne State – a rigorous program that not only gives students an edge when applying to medical school but also provides the tools to work in many other careers.
