This summer, Classical & Modern Languages Ph.D. student, Erin Matusiewicz, has been working on an archival research project for a centennial exhibition on the history of the Merrill Palmer Skillman Institute for Child & Family and Development (MPSI). The exhibit, “A Century of Community Making in the History of Detroit: The Vision of Women at the Merrill Palmer Skillman Institute,” explores the intertwined histories of MPSI and the City of Detroit. The exhibit will be open to the public in 2020 and is the public humanities component of a series of events organized by the Institute to mark this major milestone. Matusiewicz, pictured at back left, collaborated with a team of researchers, including Associate Professor of History, Tracy Neumann, pictured at center right, along with several history graduate students, to draft exhibit text for the exhibition.
Merrill-Palmer Skillman has such an interesting history! I’m looking forward to seeing this exhibit!
