RCE Detroit-Windsor Receives Prestigious Award for Youth-Led Food Waste Reduction Project

We are incredibly honored that UN-RCE Detroit-Windsor has been awarded the United Nations’ highest recognition for youth-led initiatives: the Outstanding Flagship Project Award! 🎉

This achievement emphasizes the impactful work we are doing to reduce food waste and promote environmental action through youth leadership.

Our project at Wayne State University (WSU), in collaboration with the non-profit Make Food Not Waste, student organization Green Warriors Club  and the WSU Office of Sustainability are tackling the global challenge of food waste, starting right here on campus.

Our latest focus was at Towers Cafe where our team led by Graduate Fellow Mohamed A. Dabaja have been collecting data on food waste and hosting educational campaigns on preventing food waste. In just 8 weeks, they managed to reduce 20% of overall food waste!Â
