Detroit Leadership: Dr. Donna Kashian

Dr. Donna Kashian is a researcher with expertise in Aquatic Ecology, Ecotoxicology, and Invasion Ecology. Based in Detroit, Michigan, her research focuses on using aquatic organisms to understand the impacts of environmental contaminants. Recognizing the importance of community awareness, Donna also examines the challenges related to environmental justice, especially in urban contexts where minority groups can be more exposed to environmental pollutants. She has developed methods to improve water quality monitoring, and her findings have been integrated into community programs to raise awareness about environmental health threats.

In terms of her academic background, Dr. Kashian received her Ph.D. in Zoology and Ecotoxicology from the University of Wisconsin in 2002. She acquired her Master of Science in Zoology from Michigan State University in 1998, and her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Eastern Michigan University in 1993.

Additionally, Dr. Kashian plays a pivotal role in the RCE Detroit-Windsor collaboration as the head of the Detroit side. Her involvement ensures a strong academic and community-oriented connection between Detroit and Windsor, furthering the goals of education and community partnership in the region.
