
In August 2026, Anjalie Amarasinghe won Graduate Teaching Award and Graduate Student Service Award for her exceptional work as BSGSA Teaching Representative. Alessandra Zieleniewski won Graduate Teaching Award.


In June 2025, REBUILD undergraduate research fellow, Hasan Farhoud, presented the research he did with graduate student, Alessandra Zieleniewski, using fly wing phenotypes to learn about changes in transcriptional regulation.
In May and June of 2025, Pile lab presents “Why Flies?” interactive exhibit at the Michigan Science Center. To explain to children the importance of research and why flies are a useful model organism.


In April of 2025, Lori presented to high school students her inspiring journey to becoming a PI and Associate Dean.
In spring of 2025, Anjalie Amarasinghe won The Sri Lanka President’s Award for Scientific Research, published in 2020, was presented at the 2023 ceremony and an honorable mention for the Outstanding Research Presentation at the Chuan-Pu Lee Endowed Graduate Student Research Presentation Day from the School of Medicine at Wayne State University.


In April of 2025, the Pile lab presented to high school students in the Metro Detroit area at Science Fair with a Twist, hosted by the Detroit Sci-Pol Network.
Pile Lab celebrated the graduation of Dr. Imad Soukar in Summer 2024 commencement ceremony.
