Ashlesha Chaubal: I always think of Lori as my mentor rather than just a PI or a person of authority that I answered to. She not only trained me to do research, but also showed me how to be a good teacher, by example. I will be forever grateful to her for planting the seed of science outreach in my mind because that has now become my career goal. I admire Lori for her perseverance and passion for science.
Ian Moore: My time in the Pile lab was pivotal to my development as a scientist and lab manager. I couldn’t have asked for a better PI to train me how not only to perform benchwork but how to think through the logic of what I was doing. I know for a fact that I wouldn’t be where I am in my career without the scientific foundation and relationships I built in the Pile lab and with Lori.
Shelby Kasto: Working in Dr. Piles lab as an undergraduate was an awesome experience. It was there that I acquired a vast range of valuable skills and knowledge, from techniques to theory and even scientific writing. Now, as a PhD student I still practice what I learned while working in her lab.
Nirmalya Saha: I did my PhD under the mentorship of Dr. Lori Pile. The journey through PhD had been very enriching in terms of gaining experience as a scientist. Dr. Pile has been very instrumental with her mentorship and always open to my ideas, that have helped me immensely towards my scientific career till today. I enjoyed my time at Dr. Pile’s laboratory.
Ambikai Gajan: I often fondly remember my time spent as a PhD student in the Pile lab. The friendly and collaborative lab environment nurtured both my scientific and personal development and led to many lasting connections not just professionally but personally as well. I am always appreciative of the support and encouragement that Lori provided to utilize every opportunity to present our work within and outside the university as well as participate in organizations and workshops that expanded our growth as valued members of the broader scientific community. I continue to receive Lori’s support in my career and enjoy staying connected to the Pile Lab family.
Maksymilian Pilecki: During the 3 years I spent as an undergraduate research volunteer in her lab, I gained valuable skills and knowledge that placed me on a path to become a physician-scientist in the next few years. Dr. Pile’s mentorship and guidance helped me develop strong critical thinking skills, research skills, and most importantly furthered my love for scientific research. In addition, the collaborative atmosphere fostered by Dr. Pile and all lab members made my time in the lab very enjoyable and rewarding.
