I signed up for the study, how do I get the paid day off from my department?

Please advise your administration of the day you have elected to participate to ensure that there is adequate manpower on your shift. You will then be asked to sign at your appointment to confirm your participation.

On the day of my appointment, where do I go?

The study takes place on the third floor of the Faculty Administrative Building on the Wayne State University Campus, in Detroit, Michigan.

The address of the Faculty Administrative Building is: 656 W Kirby St, Detroit, MI 48202.

This building is located near the center of campus, close to the intersection of Kirby Street and Anthony Wayne Drive (seen on the map below). When you arrive at the building, please enter through the south entrance and take the elevator to the third floor. Once on the third floor, there will be signs to direct you to the correct room where you will be greeted by project staff.

When I get to Wayne State, where and how do I park?

Participants in this study will be fully reimbursed for parking on the day of their appointment. We ask that you use Park Detroit on any public street around the Faculty Administrative Building. Pay for parking upfront, either by using the Park Detroit app on your phone, or by paying at a Park Detroit kiosk (please pay for a full two hours). At the conclusion of your appointment, you will be asked to show project staff your paper parking receipt or the receipt on your phone, and then will be reimbursed with cash.

Additional information about Park Detroit can be found here.

I can no longer make my appointment, how do I cancel and reschedule?

If you can no longer attend your appointment, please email us at PSRG@wayne.edu. Please include your randomized ID number and appointment time in the email. You will not be able to reschedule during this pay period; however, additional dates will be added in the future and you would be able to sign up for the study again during that time. The research staff can inform you of those dates/times when you email to reschedule.

How can I contact you?

If you have any questions, the researchers are available by email at PSRG@wayne.edu.  During study hours (Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 8a – 12p) the researchers will also be able by phone, at 313-212-6860.

I am worried about participating in a study that asks personal questions. How do you protect my confidentiality?

The researchers are entirely committed to and governed by strict federal guidelines on maintaining the confidentiality of each officer who participates in the study. Throughout your survey and biosample collection, you will be identified SOLELY by a randomly-generated ID number to protect your identity. The primary interest of this study is police officer stress; therefore, blood and saliva samples are ONLY being analyzed for indicators of stress and immune system markers.

We will NOT be releasing individual data to anyone outside of the research team, including the Detroit Police Department (i.e., administration at DPD will only get things such as the average level of stress perceived by officers and recommendations for way to reduce stress).

None of the individual data or information you provide can be accessed by the public or your employer.
