Project

Neighborhoods, Stress, and Police Behavior: Understanding the Relationships

Funded by the National Institute of Justice Award number: 2017-R2-CX-0045

This project aims to comprehensively examine how officers’ patrol environments influence their biopsychological stress response. Although stress among police officers has long been considered an important topic, it is unclear how stress influences policing at the street-level, or what role various environmental stressors play in police officer stress and performance. Despite these gaps in knowledge, police stress continues to be an important area of research because of its public health and safety implications. The ultimate purpose of this project is to develop a comprehensive and empirically based understanding about how patrol environments affect officers and provide a basis for future intervention work.
